President of CARBICA Extends Concern and Support to Nations Affected by Hurricane Beryl

The Caribbean Branch of the International Council on Archives (CARBICA) extends its concern to all nations impacted by the recent passage of Hurricane Beryl across the Caribbean region. Our hearts go out to those who have suffered losses and hardships due to this devastating natural disaster.

The Caribbean is not only rich in natural beauty but also in cultural heritage, which is integral to our collective identity. Recognizing the significant impact of hurricanes on our cultural institutions and heritage collections, CARBICA stands ready to support recovery efforts for affected memory and information institutions (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) in collaboration with the Cultural Emergency Response (CER).

The CER Hub in the Caribbean (launched in March 2024), with its Secretariat at the National Archives of Curacao, serves as a crucial resource during times of crisis for the preservation and recovery of cultural heritage. https://www.culturalemergency.org/programs/caribbean-hub

Institutions and organizations within the Caribbean heritage sector are encouraged to reach out to the Caribbean CER Secretariat for assistance and guidance before or in the aftermath of a disaster. In addition to providing expertise and support, the CER Hub in the Caribbean can facilitate access to European funding opportunities specifically earmarked for the recovery and restoration of cultural collections and properties affected by natural disasters such as hurricane Beryl.

For further information and assistance, please contact the CER Secretariat at the National Archives of Curacao via email at [carcerhub@gmail.com](mailto:carcerhub@gmail.com). Together, we can work to ensure that our rich cultural heritage remains resilient and protected in the face of adversity.
