Launch a CER Regional Hub in the Caribbean region.

In short,

  • Cultural Emergency Response (CER) and the Cultural Heritage Emergency Network (CHEN) launch a CER Regional Hub in the Caribbean region.
  • The Caribbean is a region rich in cultural diversity and heritage, but it also faces many devastating and recurring environmental challenges like hurricanes, floods, coastal erosion, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions.
  • The CER Regional Hub in the Caribbean will become a coordination center of expertise for regional response to culture in crisis.
  • If you know of organisations working towards the protection of culture in crisis in the Caribbean region, please contact us or notify those who should reach out to

Cultural Emergency Response (CER) is delighted to announce the formation of a new CER Regional Hub in the Caribbean together with partners from the Cultural Heritage Emergency Network (CHEN).

We are expanding the Regional Hubs network to the Caribbean region to help coordinate and strengthen existing efforts for the protection of cultural heritage under threat.
The Caribbean is a region full of cultural diversity and heritage, but it also faces many challenges such as recurring natural hazards like hurricanes, floods, coastal erosion, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. Most of these threats are becoming more frequent and intense because of the climate crisis. At the same time, some places in the region are experiencing increasing political unrest and illegal practices such as looting which have a large impact on the region’s heritage.
Together with our partners on the ground, we will nurture a network of local and regional organisations working towards a shared goal of creating a more inclusive and sustainable approach to heritage protection. In doing so, the Regional Hub in the Caribbean will coordinate response to culture in crisis, develop mechanisms for decentralised emergency response, build networks of experts and institutions, and share knowledge and best practices.

Cultural Emergency Response (CER) is delighted to announce the formation of a new CER Regional Hub in the Caribbean together with partners from the Cultural Heritage Emergency Network (CHEN).

By joining the network, CHEN will benefit from the expertise, resources, and tools shared by the other Regional Hubs in Central America, the Western Balkans, and the Levant, as well as other partners. We look forward to working with CHEN, an initiative of the Caribbean Regional Branch of the International Council of Archives (CARBICA), on developing the CER Regional Hub in the Caribbean to safeguard the region’s cultural heritage for future generations.

We actively invite regional and international collaboration. If you have any knowledge of organisations working towards the protection of culture in crisis in the Caribbean region, please contact us at info@culturalemergency.org or notify those who should reach out.
