CARBICA Sponsorship Barbados Conference 2013

The Executive Committee of the Caribbean Archives Association (CARBICA) is pleased to announce an initiative to sponsor a regional archivist to attend The 2013 Conference of the International Council on Archives, Section on University & Research Institutions Archives to be held between 23 - 29th June at the Cave Hill Campus of The University of the West Indies in Barbados.

The Conference entitled, “The New Age Archivist: Managing Archives in a Digital World” includes a three-day  pre-conference training session, organized by the West Indies Federal Archives Centre in conjunction with the University of Dundee.  We feel that the pre-conference training will be of particular interest to those of your staff with little or no formal archival training.  Following the training, the sponsored archivist will also enjoy exposure to the sessional programme on the challenges presented by the management of digital collections.  Further information on the conference and training can be found at

CARBICA will fund the successful applicant by covering the costs of registration, air travel and accommodations for the pre-conference training as well as the programme sessions of the Conference.  Consideration for sponsorship will be given to those with little or no formal archival training.  As this initiative is a part of the membership drive to engage young archivists to support and participate in CARBICA, only those who are paid up Category “D” members of CARBICA will be eligible (US $30.00).  I attach a membership application form along with instructions on how to register and would be pleased if you might circulate these to your staff.  Applications and fee should be received by the Treasurer at no later than 15th May 2013.   A draw will be held the last week in May and the successful applicant notified by 1st June, 2013.

We are very excited about the Conference and hope that our initiative will stimulate interest in all the ICA programmes in the region.  Hope to see you there!
